Iran Comments on Israeli Election: Whatever the Result, It Makes No Difference
Iran has commented on Israel’s legislative election, scheduled for Tuesday (27 October) local time, in which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces a tight contest with the opposition. Tehran said the outcome of the Israeli election would make “no difference whatsoever”.
The election, AFP reported on Monday (26 October 2026), is taking place amid growing threats by Israel and the United States to launch fresh attacks on Iran, following a war that the two countries began in late February.
“It makes no difference to us who, in this election, takes control of a regime that brings nothing but violence and slaughter to our region,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said at his weekly press conference on Monday (26 October), a day before the Israeli vote.
In recent days, Netanyahu has repeatedly said that the only way to eliminate the threat posed by Iran is to use his government’s power.
On Sunday (25 October), Netanyahu told Israeli television channel Channel 14 that he had “instructed Mossad and the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) to overthrow the Iranian regime”.
Baghaei dismissed Netanyahu’s remarks as “empty threats” and “a sign of desperation”.
In the legislative election scheduled for Tuesday (27 October) local time, Israeli voters will elect members of the Knesset, which has 120 seats.
According to two recent polls published by KAN and Channel 12 on Friday (23 October)—the final date on which publication was legally permitted before the election, Anadolu Agency reported—Netanyahu’s coalition was projected to win just 50 parliamentary seats. That was fewer than the 52 projected for the opposition bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot, the former chief of the Israel Defense Forces and Netanyahu’s main rival.
Netanyahu accuses Iran of seeking to disrupt Israeli election
In a video statement released by the Israeli prime minister’s office on Sunday (25 October), Netanyahu accused Iran and its allies of possibly attempting to disrupt the Israeli election. He also warned Tehran against taking any hostile action.
“We have intelligence indications that our enemies, namely Iran and its proxy groups, may try to challenge us with attacks aimed at disrupting the election,” Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu then issued a warning to Iran and its proxies: “Do not try to test us. You will receive a far more devastating blow.”
He said the Israeli military was prepared to carry out both defensive and offensive operations.
