Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz Again After Israel Attacks Lebanon
Iran’s central military command has announced that it is once again closing the Strait of Hormuz. The closure was implemented in response to Israel’s attack on southern Lebanon.
According to AFP on Saturday (20/6/2026), Iran stated that the Israeli attack on Lebanon constitutes a violation of Tehran’s agreement with the United States.
“It is hereby announced that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to ship traffic. It should be noted that this initial step is a response to the enemy’s breach of promise, and if the aggression continues, further steps will be planned and taken to compel the enemy to comply with its obligations,” said the Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters in a statement broadcast by state television.
Meanwhile, Lebanese official media reported that an Israeli attack on a village near the southern city of Sidon killed at least seven people on Saturday. The strike occurred despite a ceasefire with Hezbollah being announced the previous day.
The attack on Qannarit killed “seven people and injured 13 others, according to provisional estimates,” said the state-run National News Agency (NNA).
