Iran Closes Cafe Alleged to Host 'Satanic' Activities
Iranian authorities have closed a cafe in central Tehran over allegations of promoting ‘satanic’ activities. According to AFP, citing local media reports from Fars news agency on Sunday (31 May 2026), the establishment is located on Tehran’s renowned Valiasr Street. It was reported to have hosted events featuring Western-style music that ‘provided a backdrop for abnormal behaviour’. Mehr news agency stated police accused patrons of involvement in a ‘satanic movement’. A 14-second silent video released by Tasnim news agency showed a crowded venue where musicians played guitars and customers nodded their heads to the music. Iranian authorities have long conducted raids and arrests targeting groups or networks accused of promoting ‘satanism’, with past rock and heavy metal concerts also labelled as satanic events. The Islamic Republic has a history of targeting activities deemed contrary to Islamic values or influenced by Western culture.
