Iran Closes All Universities Following Israeli and US Strikes
Iran’s government has implemented several measures following military strikes by the United States and Israel. The Iranian Ministry of Science announced the closure of universities across the entire country until further notice, according to reports from Iran’s official news agency IRNA, cited by AFP on Saturday, 28 February 2026.
The Israeli and US strikes on Iranian territory occurred on Saturday morning local Iranian time. The attackers claimed the strikes eliminated threats posed by the Iranian regime.
Iran characterised the strikes as a violation of national sovereignty. Military officials promised retaliation and launched counter-attacks targeting several US military bases across the Middle East. Iran subsequently conducted retaliatory strikes against US military installations in the region.
A series of explosions rocked multiple Arab Gulf nations hosting US military bases on Saturday local time, including Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait, following the US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
Latest reports indicate that Iranian Defence Minister Amir Nasirzadeh has been killed, and Iranian Revolutionary Guards Commander Mohammed Pakpour has also been reported killed. No official confirmation has been provided by Iranian or Israeli authorities regarding these deaths.
US President Donald Trump responded following the American strikes on Iran, describing the operation as part of a noble mission. “The lives of brave American heroes may be lost and we may have casualties, which is often the case in war, but we are doing this not for now. We are doing this for the future, and this is a noble mission,” Trump stated, according to Reuters.
