Iran’s military has stated that the United States’ position is chaotic and unfavourable following heightened tensions in the strategic Strait of Hormuz region. Tehran has openly identified US military bases in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain as primary targets for its retaliation. Military spokesman General Abolfazl Shekarchi asserted that Washington has failed to achieve its objectives, both in securing its interests in the Strait of Hormuz and in weakening Iran’s regional influence. ‘The situation is chaotic and unfavourable for America,’ Shekarchi said. He added that the US is currently seeking a new strategy, but assessed that the likelihood of Washington de-escalating depends on permission from ‘Zionists’, a term referring to Israeli influence over US foreign policy. The tensions were triggered by a dispute over the management of shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz. Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Akraminia stated that Iran was forced to take decisive action to defend its rights after the US allegedly violated international commitments. ‘The US violated its commitments and attempted to create a fake and illegal route in the Strait of Hormuz, contrary to the memorandum of understanding signed in June,’ Akraminia said. He revealed that Iran’s military has mapped key US bases in the region as operational targets. ‘We have made the US bases in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain, which are considered the country’s most important bases in the region, the centre of our operations,’ he stressed. The collapse of the memorandum of understanding triggered a series of armed engagements. The US reportedly launched air strikes into Iranian territory for 13 consecutive nights, prompting Iran to retaliate by attacking US military facilities in the three neighbouring countries. Meanwhile, US media reports indicated that President Donald Trump temporarily halted strikes on Friday due to concerns over dwindling interceptor missile stockpiles, while also allowing room for potential diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the broader conflict. Iran has rejected a US ceasefire proposal delivered by the Iraqi Prime Minister and has threatened to strike Tel Aviv if Donald Trump continues the air strikes. The conflict has driven oil prices above US$100 per barrel, with analysts warning of further increases due to depleting global energy reserves. The United Nations has urged involved parties to facilitate the immediate evacuation of approximately 6,000 seafarers still trapped in the Strait of Hormuz.
