Iran Claims US Attack on Larak Island was a "Mistake"

Tehran (ANTARA) - The United States’ attack on Larak Island in Iran was a mistake, stated Hossein Mohebi, a spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), on Monday.

“This move is a strategic and fatal mistake made by the United States… during the economic war against Iran,” he said, as quoted by the IRGC press service.

He added that the attack is an error that will alter the balance of the situation in a way that is unfavourable to the US, while also causing highly detrimental impacts to the country.

Previously, the Fars news agency reported that several explosions were heard on Larak Island in Iran, located in the Strait of Hormuz.

Axios journalist Barak Ravid, quoting unnamed US officials, reported that the US had launched attacks allegedly targeting Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island.

Press TV reported that Iran had fired missiles towards US ships in the Strait of Hormuz and their airbases in West Asia.

Meanwhile, US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed that its forces attacked Iran to prevent their troops from laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
