Iran Claims US Attack on Darkhovin Nuclear Plant Under Construction
Istanbul (ANTARA) - The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran stated on Sunday that a United States attack targeted the Darkhovin Nuclear Power Plant, which is still under construction in southwestern Iran. βThe attack on a peaceful nuclear facility under international supervision is a clear violation of international law,β the organization wrote on social media platform X.
The organization did not disclose further details regarding possible damage resulting from the attack. The statement was made amid rising tensions in the region after the United States launched strikes against Iran.
In retaliation, Tehran launched attacks targeting facilities and bases allegedly used by the US military in several countries across the region. The mutual attacks between Washington and Tehran have continued despite both parties signing a memorandum mediated by Pakistan on the night of 18 June. The agreement aimed to halt the conflict, which reportedly began on 28 February. However, the US military reportedly resumed several attacks against Iran starting 8 July.
The Iranian military subsequently retaliated by striking several US military bases in Middle Eastern countries. Tehran also accused Washington of violating the ceasefire agreement. On 9 July, US President Donald Trump declared that the ceasefire was no longer in effect.
