Iran Claims to Have Destroyed Amazon Data Centre in Bahrain

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Tuesday that its Air Force had targeted key data infrastructure belonging to the prominent American company Amazon in Bahrain with a number of cruise missiles. The IRGC claimed in a statement, as reported by the Tasnim News Agency and cited by Anadolu Agency, that the Amazon infrastructure was destroyed as a result of their attack. The IRGC’s claim has not been independently verified. There has been no immediate response from Bahraini authorities, the US, or Amazon regarding Iran’s claim. The US has recently intensified its targeting of Iranian assets, particularly following attacks on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which are believed to have been orchestrated by Tehran. Iran retaliated by targeting US military facilities and bases in Gulf states. Fighting has flared up again despite both countries having agreed to and signed a memorandum of understanding, mediated by Pakistan, to end the war and achieve a lasting peace agreement. In a recent warning to Washington, the IRGC asserted that if the US continues to target bridges and transport infrastructure in Iran, it will attack ‘the most important industrial, information technology, and artificial intelligence assets belonging to companies with American shareholders’ in various countries. The IRGC also claimed its attacks in Kuwait destroyed a US long-range radar site, communications centre, missile defence system, and satellite receivers, in addition to targeting the Ali Al Salem Air Base. The IRGC stated that all countries hosting US military bases in the region are considered parties to the conflict.
