Iran Claims Destruction of US Drones in Attack on Jordan Bases

Tehran - Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Wednesday to have attacked two bases in Jordan in retaliation for US strikes. According to the IRGC, the attack damaged helicopters and destroyed a number of drones. “In the first phase of the retaliatory operation, missile and drone strikes against the King Faisal and Prince Hassan bases in Jordan damaged an F-15 fighter jet maintenance hangar,” the IRGC statement read. “In addition, a drone preparation hangar was destroyed, eight MQ-9 drones were completely destroyed, while two others at the site suffered severe damage,” the statement continued. The IRGC also claimed to have damaged two US helicopters and struck a military personnel centre, resulting in casualties. On the night before 18 June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum to guarantee an end to the conflict that began on 28 February. However, since 8 July, US forces have conducted a series of attacks against Iran. US Central Command claimed the strikes were in retaliation for Iranian actions against commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian forces subsequently retaliated by attacking US bases in the Middle East. US President Donald Trump then stated that the ceasefire between the US and Iran was no longer in effect.
