Iran Claims Destruction of US Drones in Attack on Jordan Bases

Tehran (ANTARA) — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Wednesday claimed to have attacked two bases in Jordan in retaliation for American strikes.

According to the IRGC, the attack damaged a helicopter and destroyed a number of unmanned aerial vehicles.

“In the first stage of the retaliatory operation, missile and drone strikes against the King Faisal and Prince Hassan bases in Jordan damaged a maintenance hangar for F-15 fighter aircraft,” the IRGC said in a statement.

“In addition, a drone preparation hangar was destroyed, eight MQ-9 drones were completely destroyed, whilst two others at the location were severely damaged,” the statement added.

The IRGC also claimed to have damaged two American helicopters and attacked a military personnel centre, resulting in casualties.

On the night before 18 June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum to guarantee an end to the conflict that began on 28 February.

However, since 8 July, US forces have carried out a series of attacks against Iran. US Central Command claimed the strikes were in retaliation for Iran’s actions against merchant ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian forces responded by attacking American bases across the Middle East.

US President Donald Trump subsequently said that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran was no longer in effect.
