Cairo (ANTARA) — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it has destroyed a US ballistic missile defence radar in the United Arab Emirates and attacked a US naval vessel in the Indian Ocean, according to state news agency Tasnim on Monday.

The IRGC said a precision missile destroyed a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) radar system in Al-Ruwais, Tasnim reported, citing the IRGC.

In a separate attack, a fuel-supply vessel belonging to a US carrier strike group was struck by drone and missile attacks in waters approximately 700 kilometres from Chabahar, south-eastern Iran. The strike rendered the vessel “inoperable,” according to the report.

Tasnim indicated that IRGC anti-submarine missile units were tracking the US fleet in the region. The news agency provided no further details.

The series of attacks formed part of what Iran called “Operation True Promise 4,” retaliatory strikes launched following a combined US-Israeli attack on Saturday 28 February that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, several other senior officials, and more than 100 civilians.

The IRGC announced multiple waves of attacks targeting US and Israeli assets across the region, including several military bases in Kuwait, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia.

The US Central Command has not confirmed the Iranian claims.
