Iran Bombards US Military Bases in Four Arab Countries

Iran has responded directly to attacks by Israel and the United States. In addition to launching missiles at Israel, Iran also attacked US military bases in four Arab countries: Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, and Kuwait. These nations have reported a series of explosions in their territories.

According to reports, Bahrain News Agency stated that the US Navy Fifth Fleet service centre in Bahrain had “come under missile attack”. Iran’s news agency, Fars, separately reported that missile attacks had been launched against US bases in Bahrain.

Bahrain is one of the US’s key allies in the Persian Gulf region and permanently hosts the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in the capital, Manama. Video footage circulating online showed smoke billowing from the direction of the US naval base in Bahrain. According to a US official cited by CNN, the base was attacked by Iranian missiles.

UAE residents reported hearing loud explosions in the capital Abu Dhabi following US and Israeli strikes on Iran. Abu Dhabi also hosts a base housing US military personnel. UAE authorities announced a temporary and partial closure of airspace as a precautionary measure.

In Qatar, local officials reported that two Iranian missiles were intercepted whilst in flight within its territory. These missile attacks are believed to be Tehran’s retaliation for joint US and Israeli air strikes.
