Iran awaits right moment to confirm Indonesian delegation's visit
I hope we can confirm it soon, but there are still several matters that need to be addressed regarding this matter.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Boroujerdi, stated that the Iranian Government is waiting for the appropriate time to confirm the visit of an Indonesian delegation to Iran to pay their final respects to the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei.
“We are waiting for the right situation to confirm the visit of the Indonesian delegation to Iran and to pay our final respects to the late Supreme Leader of Iran,” Ambassador Boroujerdi told the media in Jakarta.
This statement was made during a Ceremony of Respect and Solidarity organised by the Islamic Students Association (HMI) Serang Branch, held at the Iranian Embassy in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The remarks were in response to reports regarding a visit by the Indonesian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, to Iran to attend the funeral of the late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
Boroujerdi noted that Iran had extended invitations to Indonesia and several other friendly nations a few weeks ago. He expressed that Iran is very pleased that the Indonesian Government has accepted the invitation to send a delegation to Iran.
Unfortunately, the current situation in Iran is somewhat complicated as most ceremonies for foreign delegations have concluded, and many delegates have already returned to their respective countries.
Therefore, Iran is waiting for the most suitable time to confirm the Indonesian delegation’s visit to ensure they can properly pay their final respects to the late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
“I hope we can confirm it soon, but there are still several things that need to be done regarding that,” said Boroujerdi.
He stated that during the funeral ceremonies, all Iranian flight paths were closed. Consequently, reopening these routes for delegations travelling to Iran will require some time.
Ambassador Boroujerdi mentioned that he does not yet know when Iran can provide confirmation for Foreign Minister Sugiono’s visit to Tehran, Iran.
“I do not know for certain, as I must receive confirmation from my capital,” said Boroujerdi.
“However, I am very grateful to the Indonesian Government for demonstrating its friendship to the Islamic Republic of Iran and its support against the Zionist Israel regime, which is fighting Iran and killing the Supreme Leader and several Iranian citizens, by sending a high-level delegation to Iran,” he added.
He further added that the funeral ceremonies in Tehran and Qom have concluded. The remains of the late Supreme Leader have been transported to Iraq, after which they will return to Mashhad for the final ceremony, the burial.
“So, we hope, God willing, that we can arrange for it to take place in Mashhad,” concluded Ambassador Boroujerdi.
