Iran: Attacks on civilian infrastructure signal desperation

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has asserted that threats targeting civilian infrastructure do not demonstrate strength, but rather signal desperation against Iranian sovereignty. In a post on social media platform X, Pezeshkian stressed that vital infrastructure constitutes the basic needs of society. According to the Iranian President, attacks on such infrastructure, from transport networks to electricity and water facilities, are not a show of force but a sign of desperation in the face of a nation’s will. Separately, Iranian Armed Forces spokesman Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi said Tehran would retaliate against any threat with greater force, emphasising Iran’s capability to withstand foreign pressure and threats. Speaking at a ceremony commemorating heroes who fell in the 12-day war against the US and Israel, Shekarchi explained that his country continues to demonstrate a firm response to all threats. “As we have proven, we will respond to every threat with a more brutal, stronger, and more devastating retaliation than before,” Shekarchi asserted. He said every threat from US President Donald Trump has been met by Iran with a frightening response. Iran will not retreat amidst the dominance of the global system, he said, specifically accusing Trump and Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu. “There is no reason to worry,” Shekarchi added, stating Iran will prevail by God’s will. Iran is determined to defeat its opponents and is confident its enemies will lose, Shekarchi stressed.
