Iran Attacks Haifa Oil Refinery in Israel with Drones; Tel Aviv on Alert
Escalation of the Middle Eastern conflict has entered a new phase threatening global energy stability. Iran’s military confirmed launching an air attack using drones targeting the oil refinery and fuel storage tanks in Haifa, Israel, on Tuesday 10 March 2026.
Iran’s state media, IRIB, reported that the strike constituted direct retaliation for previous attacks on Iranian oil storage facilities. “The Iranian air force used drones to attack oil and gas refineries and fuel storage facilities belonging to the Zionist regime in Haifa,” read the official military statement.
In response to the attack, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed detection of missile and drone launches from Iranian territory. Air raid sirens were reported sounding in Tel Aviv, central Israel, extending to Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Field correspondents reported successive explosions in central Israeli airspace, believed to originate from the Iron Dome air defence system attempting to intercept Iranian projectiles. Residents were urged to seek immediate shelter in security bunkers.
Conflict Background: This escalation represents a continuation of attacks beginning on 28 February 2026, when the United States and Israel struck several strategic targets in Tehran, causing infrastructure damage and civilian casualties.
As this report was filed, relevant authorities were still assessing damage levels at the Haifa refinery. However, the attack is predicted to disrupt Israel’s domestic fuel supply should the damage prove extensive.
Civil security conditions in Israel continue to deteriorate. On Monday 9 March, one person was reported killed and several others injured by rocket fragments falling on residential areas. Iran confirmed that all current military operations constitute self-defence against aggression initiated by the US and Israel in their region.
