Iranian President Masoud Pepereshkian expressed his gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russia’s stance regarding the conflict between Iran and the United States (US).

“I would like to express my deepest thanks for the opportunity to meet with you. We are grateful for your stance during the war, during the conflict, and during the implementation of US sanctions,” said Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Tuesday (1/9).

Pezeshkian added that Putin has supported Iran both at the United Nations (UN) and in various other international organisations. The Iranian President also expressed his belief that efforts to face US sanctions will yield results in the future.

“There has been a memorandum between Iran and the United States (regarding a ceasefire). If the United States returns to fulfilling the obligations set within the framework of that memorandum, then we will also fulfil all the agreed steps,” Pezeshkian stated.

He added that US actions in the conflict with Iran are unjustifiable. Meanwhile, on that occasion, Putin stated that the relationship between Russia and Iran continues to develop stably across various fields.

“The Russia-Iran friendship relationship is developing stably in all areas, in accordance with the spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement,” said Putin.

Putin added that the Russian people express solidarity with the Iranian people in their struggle to defend their national interests.
