Iran and US Hold Further Peace Talks in Switzerland, Mediated by Qatar and Pakistan
Iran and the United States (US) have conducted further talks on peace in Switzerland. Qatar and Pakistan acted as mediators in the negotiations. The meeting was announced by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which stated that Qatar and Pakistan mediated the discussions. “It is hoped that these meetings will lead to the conclusion of a comprehensive and permanent agreement addressing all aspects covered in the Memorandum of Understanding,” the ministry said. Media outlet Al Jazeera viewed live footage showing members of the US delegation entering the meeting room at the venue for the US-Iran talks in Switzerland. US Vice President JD Vance, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani were present at the meeting. Vance said President Donald Trump had paved the way for a diplomatic solution in the Middle East. Trump, Vance stated, is committed to a permanent agreement. “(Trump) gave us the authority to find a diplomatic solution to a number of issues. The question is whether we can change the relationship in the Middle East permanently,” Vance explained.
