TEHRAN (ANTARA) - Iran and the United States (US) continue exchanging messages regarding a potential agreement, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday (31 May). “Discussions and message exchanges are ongoing. Until a clear outcome is achieved, no assessment can be made. Everything being said at present is merely speculation and should not be taken seriously,” Araghchi stated via Telegram. On Friday morning in Washington, US President Donald Trump held an intelligence briefing and stated he would make a final decision on the Iran issue. However, US media later reported that no final agreement had been reached. Meanwhile, The New York Times reported on Sunday that Trump has imposed stricter conditions for a potential agreement to end the conflict with Iran and submitted a new proposal to Tehran. The conflict escalated after the US and Israel launched a joint attack on several Iranian regions on 28 February, causing damage and civilian casualties. Washington and Tehran subsequently agreed to announce a temporary ceasefire for two weeks on 7 April. However, subsequent diplomatic efforts in Islamabad reached a dead end, prompting the US to impose a blockade on Iranian ports. Trump then extended the ceasefire to allow Iran time to prepare a peace proposal.
