Iran and UN Discuss Middle East Conditions

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has communicated via telephone with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss several current conditions in the region.

According to reports from the IRNA News Agency in Tehran on Friday (3/7), during the call, Guterres expressed condolences regarding the passing of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Leader, Ali Khamenei, and conveyed deep sympathy to the people and government of Iran.

Guterres and Araghchi also exchanged updates on international and regional situations, specifically concerning the state of the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

Previously, the Iranian Foreign Minister responded to the latest message from the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), stating that for peace in the region to continue, efforts must be comprehensive, inclusive, and free from foreign interference.

In a post on the social media platform X, Araghchi criticised CENTCOM’s role in the region, questioning whether it maintains security or instead brings threats. He added that the strength of Iran’s military forces has proven capable of countering foreign parties that cannot even protect themselves.

In a separate development, the National Economic Council (DEN) expressed optimism that the rupiah exchange rate will strengthen and foreign investors will return to Indonesia as US-Iran geopolitical conflicts subside.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasised that there is no military solution to the US-Iran conflict and has been engaging in intensive communication with several Gulf state leaders to curb the escalation of conflict in the Middle East.

Furthermore, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono held a bilateral meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
