Iran and UN Discuss Middle East Conditions

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has communicated via telephone with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss the latest conditions in the region. During the call, Guterres conveyed his condolences over the passing of the Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, Ali Khamenei, and expressed deep sympathy to the people and government of Iran. Guterres and Araghchi also exchanged views on international and regional developments, particularly concerning the situation in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Previously, the Iranian Foreign Minister responded to the latest message from the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), stating that the condition for lasting peace in the region is that efforts must be comprehensive, inclusive, and free from foreign interference. In a post on social media platform X, Araghchi questioned whether CENTCOM’s role in the region was to maintain security or to pose a threat, adding that Iran’s military forces have proven capable of countering foreign powers.
