Iran and Oman Form Joint Committee for Strait of Hormuz Dialogue

Tehran - Iran and Oman have formed a joint committee to conduct dialogue regarding the Strait of Hormuz, said Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Tuesday. “Following the delegation’s visit to Muscat, Iran and Oman have established a joint committee for dialogue on the Strait of Hormuz, the details of which will be published in a joint statement,” Ghalibaf wrote on Telegram. Earlier this month, Iranian authorities stated they were developing a shipping mechanism in the Strait of Hormuz together with Oman. Last week, Iran and the United States signed an online memorandum of understanding that regulates the cessation of military conflict which began on 28 February. The document also sets a schedule for the United States to lift the naval blockade on Iranian ports and for Iran to restore shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. Technical negotiations between Iran and the United States, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, took place in Burgenstock, Switzerland, on 21 June.
