Iran and Oman discuss Hormuz situation after renewed closure

Iran and Oman have agreed to continue consultations on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Sunday. “Oman and Iran agreed to continue dialogue at the political, legal, and technical levels to reach a common understanding on ensuring navigational safety in the Strait of Hormuz,” said Esmaeil Baghaei, commenting on Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Oman, as quoted by the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Baghaei also added that the future management of the Strait of Hormuz must be determined through consultations between Iran and Oman, taking into account the situation in recent months and the military actions of the US and Israel against Iran. At the same time, he said that Qatar is participating in the consultations as one of the mediating countries in the dialogue between Iran and the US. Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz until the end of US interference in the region. “No ship is allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” the IRGC stated. On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Oman for talks on the Strait of Hormuz.
