Iran and Oman Agree to Continue Dialogue on Hormuz Strait Security

Iran and Oman have agreed to continue consultations regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Sunday. “Oman and Iran agreed to continue dialogue at the political, legal, and technical levels to reach a common understanding on guaranteeing the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” Baghaei said, commenting on Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Oman, as quoted by the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Baghaei also added that the future management of the Strait of Hormuz must be determined through consultation between Iran and Oman, taking into account the situation in recent months and the military actions of the US and Israel against Iran. At the same time, he said that Qatar is participating in the consultations as one of the mediating countries in the dialogue between Iran and the US. Previously, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz until the end of US interference in the region. “No ships are allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” the IRGC stated. On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Oman to hold talks on the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed that the Iranian armed forces will firmly defend the rights of the Iranian people in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC Navy closed the Strait of Hormuz following tensions with commercial vessels and retaliatory attacks on US assets in the region. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) officially announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz for an unspecified period. The United States has urged Iran to guarantee that the Strait of Hormuz remains open. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire with Iran has officially ended. Iran is overhauling its military doctrine to confront the US, employing four new tactics from Tehran that exploit the geographical position of the Strait of Hormuz to cripple the Western economy.
