Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim stated that Iran has allowed a Malaysian tanker to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Malaysia becomes one of the countries permitted to pass after China and India.

Quoted from detikFinance, Anwar Ibrahim conveyed this news in a speech broadcast on television. Anwar thanked Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian for allowing Malaysian ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

“We are now in the process of freeing the Malaysian oil tanker and the workers involved so they can continue their journey home,” Anwar said, quoted from Reuters, Thursday (26/3/2026).

Malaysia is said to have spoken with Iran and other countries to bridge peace negotiations in the Middle East.

“But this is not easy, because Iran feels it has been repeatedly deceived and finds it difficult to accept steps towards peace without clear and binding security guarantees for their country,” Anwar Ibrahim stated.

It is known that tankers from several countries are allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Ships permitted to transit must originate from countries considered friendly, one of which is India.

This was directly revealed on the X social media account of the Iranian Consulate General in Mumbai, quoting a statement from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The post noted that five countries have been given the green light to cross the Strait of Hormuz.

“Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi: We allow shipping through the Strait of Hormuz for friendly countries including China, Russia, India, Iraq, and Pakistan,” the post read, quoted from The Economic Times.
