Iran Accuses US of War Crimes for Targeting Civilian Infrastructure

Iran has accused the United States of committing war crimes by targeting civilian infrastructure in violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. The Iranian Foreign Ministry, in a statement broadcast by IRIB television, said the US had intensified aggressive attacks in recent days and imposed a naval blockade against Iran. The ministry stated the blockade amounts to an explicit acknowledgement of another violation of US commitments under the Islamabad MoU, a US-Iran agreement to end the war. According to the statement, the war crimes include US attacks on grain storage silos in the city of Hoveyzeh in southwestern Iran, a water mineral factory in Musian in western Iran, and a maritime surveillance tower in Chabahar used to assist fishermen. The US attacks also struck near a children’s cancer hospital in the city of Ahvaz, southwestern Iran, on Wednesday, which Tehran condemned as a barbaric act. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei previously vowed that the US attacks would be met with a firm and direct response by Iran. Tensions between the US and Iran have escalated in recent days over the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides launching attacks despite a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding to end the conflict and achieve lasting peace.
