Iran Accuses US of Violating MoU, Refuses to Fulfil Obligations

Iran has stated it will not fulfil its obligations under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States, mediated by Pakistan, as long as Washington continues to violate the agreed commitments. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran’s stance remains based on the principle of reciprocity in implementing the agreement.

"From the beginning, we have said that this is a matter of commitment for commitment. If the other party fulfils its commitments, we will also fulfil ours," Baqaei said during a press conference. He stressed that Iran cannot be accused of violating the agreement. "No one can accuse the Islamic Republic of Iran of violating the agreement. In every case, our obligations and those of the other party are clear and demonstrable."

According to Baqaei, the United States has violated several provisions of the memorandum for various reasons. Consequently, Iran considers itself under no obligation to implement the contents of the agreement as long as these violations persist. He noted that the memorandum has now entered a crisis phase but affirmed that diplomacy remains Iran’s primary option amid escalating military tensions.

Baqaei also dismissed suggestions that Iran has attacked its neighbouring countries, explaining that Iranian military operations are directed solely at bases, facilities, and locations used by the United States to launch attacks against Iran. The remarks come as tensions between Tehran and Washington have spiked, with the US launching strikes on military and infrastructure targets in Iran and Iran retaliating with missiles and drones against American military facilities in the Middle East.
