Iran Accuses US of Terrorist-Like Behaviour in Attacks on Civilian Infrastructure

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei has accused the United States of behaviour resembling that of terrorist groups, alleging that attacks forming part of a military aggression against Iran since 28 February 2026 have deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure. In a post on his X account on Saturday (18/7), Baqaei wrote that the Chabahar Maritime Watchtower, a civilian facility used for maritime safety and navigation, was intentionally struck by US forces on 16 June as part of the ongoing aggression that began on 28 February. He noted that the US Secretary of Defence had proudly released footage of the tower’s collapse. Baqaei added that, if capable, the official would have broadcast footage of a missile strike on a school in Minab and the massacre of civilians in Lamerd with the same pride. Furthermore, Baqaei accused the US of again attacking electricity facilities and a desalination pump at the Bunji Village jetty in Jask on Saturday night, an assault that left more than 10,000 people without access to drinking water. “For a country that once positioned itself as a global champion of order, liberalism, and the war on terror, proudly displaying images of destroyed bridges and civilian infrastructure has become its only remaining victory,” Baqaei said. He further stated that every destroyed bridge, tower, and civilian facility not only brings down steel and concrete but also demolishes the moral standing of the United States, along with the entire international legal order and the claims of Western civilisation in the eyes of the world. According to him, the question that must now be put to the United States and its allies is very clear and simple: “What is the difference between what they have done in Chabahar, Minab, Lamerd, and Jask and the acts of terrorism they have long used as a pretext to wage wars and occupation?”
