Tehran - The Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Ebrahim Azizi, has said that US President Donald Trump has once again shown he is not committed to the principles of negotiation or ceasefire. “The United States has again attacked Iran in the midst of negotiations. The failed US president has once again shown that he is not committed to the principles of negotiation or ceasefire,” Azizi wrote on his X account on Saturday (27/6). “This reckless violation of the ceasefire, as usual, will ultimately lead to setback and regret on their part. Blame-shifting is no longer effective,” he said. Azizi made the statement after US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on X that its forces had launched strikes against Iranian missile and drone storage facilities and coastal radar on 26 June. According to CENTCOM, the strikes were a response to an alleged attack on a commercial vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz the previous day. The development comes as Iran and the US are engaged in negotiations to finalise a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on a ceasefire that halted the US-Israeli war against Iran in late February. The talks also aim to reach an agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme and the lifting of sanctions against the country. The MoU came into effect on 18 June after being signed electronically by Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The document gives the two countries 60 days to negotiate a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme and the lifting of US sanctions.
