Iran Accuses Netanyahu of Fabricating Alleged Plot to Kill Trump's Youngest Son
Iran has denied reports claiming that Tehran planned to target Barron Trump, the youngest son of United States President Donald Trump, in an attack. Authorities in Tehran condemned such reports as fabricated propaganda.
The denial and condemnation were delivered by the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, in a statement this week, as reported by Anadolu Agency and Middle East Monitor on Saturday (29/8/2026).
Rezaei also described the report as a ploy by Netanyahu, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“The claim about a plan targeting Trump’s son is nothing but a big lie designed by Netanyahu to deceive and frighten the US President,” Rezaei said in his statement, as quoted by the ISNA news agency.
He stressed that Iran has no intention of targeting members of Trump’s family.
Rezaei’s denial came after Iranian state television recently aired an AI-generated video containing information about the residence and movements of Barron Trump in New York, USA.
The video, broadcast by Iran’s Channel 3, was widely interpreted as an assassination threat against Trump’s youngest son.
Tensions between Iran and the US remain high since the conflict began with a large-scale attack by Washington and its ally, Israel, in late February. Tehran retaliated by targeting US military positions and assets in the Middle East region.
The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in June, following mediation by Pakistan and Qatar, aimed at ending hostilities and paving the way for negotiations.
However, implementation of the MoU has faced obstacles, with Tehran accusing Washington of failing to meet its commitments. Fighting that had temporarily halted flared up again after the US and Iran exchanged attacks in July.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei released his latest statement after his country was hit with a series of new sanctions by the United States, intended to bring down the Tehran regime. The US imposed new sanctions as the conflict with Iran became increasingly protracted after diplomatic efforts stalled.
In his latest statement, as reported by Anadolu Agency and Press TV on Saturday (29/8/2026), Mojtaba said that increasing reliance on domestic production could be the key to overcoming Iran’s economic problems.
He also called for a gradual reduction in the dominant role of the US dollar in his country’s economy.
In a message delivered to mark Iran’s Government Week, Mojtaba urged the government to pay serious attention to various interconnected economic and public welfare challenges, including inflation, unemployment, price control, and the regulation of goods and services markets.
“The main key to overcoming all these problems lies in increasing reliance on domestic production,” the Iranian Supreme Leader said.
Mojtaba called for efforts to encourage economic growth, increase investment and direct it towards beneficial and important sectors, boost production, gradually reduce the important role of the dollar, and ultimately place the entire set of resistance economy policies as the top priority in the Iranian government’s economic agenda.
Mojtaba, who has not appeared in public since taking office in early March, also stressed the importance of ensuring an adequate supply of basic necessities and special goods. He added that if domestic production is insufficient, imports must be utilised appropriately and wisely.
According to Mojtaba, efforts to boost production and manage imports and prices can gradually reduce the dark spots in Iran’s economy until the problems disappear completely.
