Iran Accuses Israel of Orchestrating False Flag Drone Attack Towards Makkah

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has indicated that Israel is involved in a false flag operation regarding drones reported to be heading towards Makkah and intercepted by the Saudi military. According to Iran, this action aims to cause division among Muslim nations.

Esmaeil Bagha/i, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, stated via the X platform on Thursday that any aggression against Islamic holy sites, particularly Makkah, is an “act that deserves condemnation.”

However, he added that “mere claims” regarding the interception of an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) “heading towards Makkah” are insufficient to accuse the Houthi group of being the perpetrator.

“We must also not forget that our region has witnessed various ‘false flag’ operations, especially in recent months,” said Baghaei.

“This aims to divert public attention from the crimes committed by the Israeli and United States regimes in the region, as well as to divide Islamic countries.”

This escalation follows Saudi Arabia’s statement that a drone launched by the Houthi group towards Makkah was intercepted and destroyed.

“It is a heinous lie,” stated Houthi leader Abdel-Malik al-Houthi in a speech broadcast live on television on Thursday. He described the Saudi claim—that his group intended to target the holiest city of Islam—as “massive propaganda.”

“The sanctity of Makkah is of great importance to the people of Yemen,” he said, while accusing Saudi Arabia of “using lies as a weapon” to achieve its war objectives against the Houthis.

Al Jazeera correspondents noted that al-Houthi’s speech was directed not only at the Yemeni people but also to the international community to clarify that the Houthis are not targeting the holy city of Makkah, contrary to Saudi claims.

In his speech, al-Houthi also asserted that Saudi Arabia is the party that triggered the latest chapter of the conflict in Yemen and that Houthi forces are acting in a defensive position.
