Iran Accepts Mediators' Proposals, Says Diplomatic Channels Remain Active

Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran has accepted proposals from mediators, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said amid ongoing retaliatory strikes between Iran and the United States. Baghaei made the statement during a weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday, without providing further details when asked whether he could confirm reports of a new proposal from Qatar to revive US-Iran negotiations and a ten-day ceasefire. Baghaei stressed that Iran’s diplomatic apparatus remains active alongside its military response to US attacks, while condemning recent US strikes on civilian infrastructure, including bridges and medical centres, as a violation of “people’s rights to security and human dignity.” Referring to a peace memorandum of understanding signed with Washington on 18 June, he said “the text of the agreement is very clear,” and Washington has no excuse for violating its commitments under the deal. He said Tehran adheres to the principle of “commitment for commitment” until Washington repeatedly violated its own commitments, which then prompted Tehran to suspend the implementation of its own obligations. Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the foreign ministry spokesman affirmed Iran’s determination to exercise its sovereignty over the waterway and prevent any form of “misuse” detrimental to its national interests. Over the past week, Washington has launched several waves of attacks against provinces in southern Iran, claiming the strikes aim to “degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping.” Iran subsequently responded to the attacks with waves of missile and drone strikes targeting several US military bases and facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
