Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian revealed on Monday that $6 billion of Iran’s frozen assets currently held in Qatar will be released and returned to the country, according to the official Iranian news agency IRNA. The statement was made during a meeting with a senior cleric in Qom Province, central Iran, while outlining the achievements of a recently signed peace memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States. Pezeshkian stated that the total amount of his country’s frozen assets in Qatar reaches $12 billion. He stressed that necessary follow-up measures are being taken to return the remaining funds to Iran. Calling the MoU a ‘great victory’ for the Iranian people, Pezeshkian said sanctions on Iranian petrochemical and oil exports have been lifted within the framework of the agreement. Pezeshkian also said the US ultimately forced Israel to accept the peace MoU, although Israel and several other groups still oppose the implementation of the deal. He reaffirmed Iran’s stance regarding its nuclear activities, stating that his country has no intention of developing nuclear weapons and that its nuclear activities will be in accordance with national needs and within the framework of announced policies. On 18 June, Iran and the US signed an MoU regarding the cessation of war on all fronts in the region, including Lebanon. Under the MoU, both parties agreed to hold negotiations within 60 days to reach a final agreement.
