iQOO 16 Claimed as First Smartphone with 2K 165Hz Display
Electronics manufacturer iQOO claims the iQOO 16 is the world’s first smartphone to utilise a display panel with 2K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate.
According to a report by Gizmochina on Monday, the iQOO 16 screen employs 2K LEAD 2.0 technology, developed in partnership with Samsung Display. This collaboration between the two companies encompasses not only the display panel but also the use of Samsung M16 luminescent material, a specialised IC to support high refresh rates, and a dedicated production line for iQOO’s flagship devices.
In terms of colour, the display features a 1.24x P3 colour gamut accompanied by individual screen-by-screen calibration. iQOO claims that colour uniformity has increased by 39.6 per cent and brightness uniformity has improved by 22.3 per cent compared to the previous generation.
The manufacturer also employs colour and brightness compensation algorithms that operate down to the sub-pixel level for screen calibration. According to the company, the panel’s colour accuracy reaches ±0.001.
To support the gaming experience, the iQOO 16 screen is equipped with a new touch chip featuring an instantaneous touch sampling rate of up to 5,000Hz and a multi-finger sampling rate of 500Hz. The manufacturer has also integrated Q-flex Control technology to reduce latency between touch and on-screen response.
The iQOO 16 display is claimed to have a 100 per cent bezel brightness ratio, one of the highest in the industry. The iQOO 16 is also touted as the first Android device to use Samsung M16 luminescent material.
This material allows the screen to achieve a manual peak brightness of 1,100 nits, an all-area peak brightness of 2,800 nits, and brightness in specific areas of up to 10,000 nits. Other display features include a light-sensitive full-area light sensor, non-polarised natural light display, Direct Current (DC) dimming at full brightness, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) dimming up to 3,300Hz, and a glare protection mode for gaming.
