The leadership of the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) has been handed over from Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho to Inspector General Wibowo. Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) has expressed its appreciation for Inspector General Agus’s performance during his tenure, noting his contribution to enhancing public trust.

IPW Chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso stated that under Inspector General Agus’s leadership, the face of Polri’s traffic services underwent significant change and contributed to increased public confidence in the institution. He noted that Inspector General Agus successfully built a more humanistic approach by prioritising service to the community through various programmes, including ‘Polantas Menyapa dan Melayani’ (Traffic Police Greet and Serve). This approach was able to build good communication with road users and strengthen synergy with various stakeholders, including online motorcycle taxi driver communities as an important part of the transportation ecosystem.

In addition, the transformation of traffic services through digitalisation was another important achievement. The implementation of the National Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) system and various Korlantas digital services has promoted more transparent, modern, and professional law enforcement. Traffic officers were also directed to no longer prioritise enforcement practices that appear to entrap the public, but rather to focus on education and service.

IPW assessed that these measures contributed to the increase in public satisfaction with Polri. Citing a Kompas survey that recorded a public satisfaction level of 82.4 per cent, IPW believes that Korlantas programmes under Inspector General Agus’s leadership were one of the supporting factors for this achievement. The tagline ‘The Traffic Police’s Smile is the Main Marker’ was also deemed successful in changing public perception of traffic police, shifting their image from a frightening presence to that of a servant providing safety and assistance to road users.

From an operational perspective, IPW also noted the success of the 2025 and 2026 Ketupat Operations. Despite facing one of the largest homecoming and return flows in history, the operations proceeded well, relatively smoothly, and managed to minimise traffic congestion and significant disruptions. Similar success was observed during the 2025-2026 Christmas and New Year Candle Operation, where traffic accident figures were reportedly reduced by around 7 per cent, while the number of fatalities decreased by 27.12 per cent. These achievements demonstrate that the security strategies, traffic engineering, and service approaches implemented were effective.

IPW expressed its hope that the various innovations, humanistic service culture, digital transformation, and professionalism built under Inspector General Agus’s leadership will be continued and further developed by the new Kakorlantas, Inspector General Wibowo, so that public trust in Polri, particularly the Traffic Corps, will continue to increase alongside modern, transparent, professional, and community-oriented services.
