Iptu Motalip Hopes Hoegeng's Spirit Continues to Live Within the National Police
Iptu Motalip Litiloly, winner of the 2026 Hoegeng Awards in the Border and Remote Area Police category, expressed his gratitude upon receiving the honour. He expressed his hope that all members of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) would follow in the footsteps of the late Chief of National Police, General Hoegeng Iman Santoso.
“I hope that for future generations of Polri, we can leave a message to remain spirited and follow the path of the former Chief of Police, General Hoegeng. May everyone be motivated to be like us currently,” said the Head of Samapta at Nduga Police, Iptu Motalip, following the Hoegeng Awards 202lar ceremony in Jakarta on Friday (31/07/2026).
Iptu Motalip also extended his thanks to the Chief of National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the Papua Regional Police Chief, the head of the 2026 Peace Task Force Cartenz, his colleagues at the Nduga Police, and the people of Nduga for their prayers.
During the event, he shared his experience in winning the hearts of the Nduga community. Iptu Motalip has become a trusted figure for peace in the region due to his role in mediating various conflicts. “Initially, I shared that when I first arrived, the Nduga people were very afraid of the police because they were in uniform and carried weapons. However, through gradual negotiations and communication, the community has slowly grown closer to us,” he said.
He noted that from 2013 to 2018, he and his colleagues at the Nduga Police worked to suppress and resolve various conflicts, including armed clashes and civil unrest. “The community sees me as a figure of peace because we were able to de-escalate conflicts, ranging from armed clashes to frequent civil wars, between 2013 and 2018,” he concluded.
About the Hoegeng Awards:
The Hoegeng Awards is a collaborative programme between detikcom and the National Police to honour exemplary officers. There are five categories for the 2026 awards: Dedicated Police, Innovative Police, Integrity Police, Police Protector of Women and Children, and Border and Remote Area Police.
The selection process began on 27 January 2026, with nominations submitted by the public. Over nine thousand names were submitted before the deadline on 2 April 2026. Following a verification process, the names were reviewed by an Expert Board comprising former Acting KPK Leader Dr Mas Achmad Santosa, Kompolnas member Gufron Mabruri, Alissa Qotrunnada Wahid of the Gusdurian Indonesia Network, Putu Elvina of Komnas HAM, and the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Dr Habiburokhman.
