IPL Grand Final becomes test stage for 2026 Asian Games

The Grand Final of the BRI Indonesian Pingpong League (IPL) Season 2 at Trans Studio Mall Cibubur, West Java, on 26-30 August is serving as a test stage for the readiness of Indonesian table tennis athletes ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games from 19 September to 4 October.

Ten athletes being prepared for the Asian Games contingent, consisting of five men and five women, plus two reserve athletes, are taking part in the Grand Final.

“The opponents faced are not ordinary, so preparation must be maximised,” said ONIC Sport Jakarta athlete Muhammad Naufal Junindra Irawan in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday.

IPL 2026 Executive Chairman Yon Mardiono said the competition prioritises data-based objectivity so that every athlete has an equal opportunity to show their best performance.

In the men’s sector, the Grand Final title is contested by ONIC Sport Jakarta, PTM Arwana Jaya, PTM Sukun Kudus, and Zakhwan Sport. Meanwhile, the women’s sector features ONIC Sport Jakarta, PTM Arwana Jaya, PTM Sukun Kudus, and Jasa Raharja Putera.

The second season of the IPL was attended by 47 teams, up from 27 teams in the first season, and reached seven zones, including Sumatra, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Sulawesi.
