IPI Researcher: Dasco's Initiative for BI Governor-Finance Minister Meeting Deserves Appreciation
Researcher from Indikator Politik Indonesia (IPI) Bawono Kumoro has commended the move by House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad to facilitate a meeting between Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa in response to the current economic conditions. Bawono assessed that the legislative body’s action deserves appreciation. “Amidst global economic dynamics still haunted by uncertainty, the step taken by Indonesian House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad in initiating meetings between the government, fiscal authority, and monetary authority deserves appreciation,” Bawono told journalists on Wednesday. Bawono assessed that Dasco demonstrated a strategic role for parliament, going beyond merely carrying out legislative and oversight functions. The House was also seen as capable of bridging coordination among national stakeholders. “The presence of the Finance Minister and the Governor of Bank Indonesia at the forum reflects how important synergy across institutions is to ensure economic policies run harmoniously,” he said. Parliament appeared to play an active role in providing solutions to the economic conditions, which are not in good shape. Bawono assessed that the House is not remaining silent in addressing issues that could directly impact the people. “Not remaining silent in facing various potential economic challenges ahead, which have a quite serious potential to affect broad public welfare,” said Bawono. “This also shows that the Indonesian House is now capable of playing a more strategic role. Not only carrying out its legislative, oversight, and budgetary functions, but also becoming a bridge for coordination among stakeholders,” he added. It is noted that a series of meetings took place over three consecutive days at the House. On Saturday, Dasco led a discussion with Finance Minister Purabaya and Bank Indonesia to seek ways to strengthen the rupiah. On Monday, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Supervisory Board Dony Oskaria, and the State Secretary also held a meeting at the House. They sought to reassure investors and the public that Indonesia’s economic condition remains secure. Most recently, on Tuesday, a meeting with the leadership of Himbara (the association of state-owned banks) also took place at the House. The discussion was initiated by Gerindra Party Daily Chairman Dasco.
