iPhone Users Beware! Activate This Feature Immediately Before Your Data is Stolen
Entering mid-March 2026, iPhone users worldwide are receiving a serious warning regarding the latest cyber security threat. A sophisticated spyware dubbed DarkSword has been discovered exploiting a vulnerability in the WebKit browser engine, potentially stealing sensitive data and draining users’ cryptocurrency wallets.
According to the latest analysis from cybersecurity firms Lookout and iVerify, DarkSword is a type of malware that is extremely difficult to detect. This spyware is designed to infect devices when users visit malicious websites, steal data within minutes, and then erase all traces (self-delete) from the iPhone’s file system.
The primary targets of this attack are users still running older operating system versions, particularly iOS 18.4 to iOS 18.6.2. The threatened data includes chat histories in instant messaging apps, SIM card information, and financial access credentials.
It is estimated that around 220 million to 270 million iPhone units worldwide are currently vulnerable to this exploitation because they have not been updated to the latest 2026 operating system.
In response to this threat, Apple has officially launched a new defence mechanism called Background Security Improvements (BSI). This is the debut of a “lightweight” security patch distribution system that allows Apple to fix critical vulnerabilities without requiring users to perform time-consuming full-scale operating system (OS) updates.
This emergency update comes in version iOS 26.3.1(a). The “(a)” after the version indicates that it is a background security patch specifically addressing the WebKit vulnerability (CVE-2026-20643).
