iPhone Ultra may be scarce upon initial release due to extra testing

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Apple’s first foldable phone, currently referred to as the iPhone Ultra, is reported to potentially be scarce or difficult to find during its initial release period, which is scheduled for next week.

A report from Phone Arena on Friday (4/9) suggests that this scarcity is caused by extra testing conducted by Apple to verify the quality of their inaugural foldable device. As of late August 2026, the available stock of the iPhone Ultra is estimated to be only in the hundreds of units.

This news was first reported by Nikkei Asia. Apple and its suppliers are working tirelessly to manage production, with a daily target of reaching tens of thousands of handsets every day.

To achieve the desired performance, Apple is requiring suppliers to test two specific aspects more extremely, ensuring that when the device is marketed, it possesses superior performance compared to its competitors.

At the very least, Apple’s first foldable phone must be able to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8, which currently holds a strong position within the industry.

The rapid production push for the iPhone Ultra is also influenced by Apple’s revised targets. While the company initially prepared for sales of 7-8 million units by the end of 2026, that target has now been increased to 10 million units.
