iPhone Manufacturer to Recruit 8,900 Workers for AI Acceleration
Tata Consultancy Services, the Indian manufacturer for Apple’s iPhone, is building a team of up to 8,900 workers dedicated to accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence. CEO K Krithivasan stated the company will ensure 1% to 1.5% of its employees become Field Day Engineers, though it was not specified whether these roles would be filled through new recruitment or retraining existing staff. The team will focus on speeding up AI adoption, customising tools for business needs, and evaluating AI-related acquisitions. Krithivasan dismissed concerns that AI would disrupt the outsourcing model, asserting that deep knowledge of the customer’s environment is required for smooth integration, which is where TCS differentiates itself. Despite a strong vision for AI, the company’s annual AI revenue growth slowed to 13% in the first quarter, down from 28% in the previous quarter, though Krithivasan aims for long-term quarterly growth of 25%. TCS has invested US$1 billion in talent development and internal AI accessibility, focusing on targeted recruitment and training in AI-based technologies.
