Detailed information about the yet-to-be-released iPhone 18 Pro series, including a list of secret components, supplier identities, and photos of prototypes undergoing testing, has been leaked on the dark web. The source is suspected to be a data theft at Apple’s supplier in India, Tata Electronics. This incident threatens Apple’s secretive business strategy whilst raising questions about the security of Apple’s supply chain in India. According to a Reuters report on Monday (29/6/2026), a malware group called World Leaks posted more than 200,000 files stolen from Tata Electronics. Documents examined include at least six files mapping hundreds of components in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, along with the names of their respective supplier companies. The leaked details cover the types of chips on the main circuit board, battery components, and the rear camera system. Additionally, there are photos of device drop tests taken at Tata’s production facility in early 2026, showing a flat grey body design with three rear camera lenses and the Apple logo. This data is considered highly confidential as it reveals the structure of Apple’s cooperation with suppliers, which is closely guarded. The information could be used by competitors to study the composition of Apple’s new products and exploited by counterfeit goods manufacturers. Weaknesses in Apple’s supply chain have also been exposed. Industry players can now ascertain Apple’s dependence on specific component manufacturers. A source familiar with the matter said, ‘Apple is very concerned about the dissemination of these documents because they relate to an unreleased model.’ As of now, spokespeople for Apple and Tata Electronics have not provided a response regarding the incident. Previously, the World Leaks group was also claimed to be responsible for a data theft at Nike. Reuters has not been able to verify the authenticity of all the leaked files and has not succeeded in contacting the group for comment. The incident comes at a crucial moment for the partnership between Apple and Tata. As the only locally owned iPhone assembly partner in India, Tata is key to Apple’s strategy to reduce its dependence on China. This development also draws attention to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to make India a global electronics manufacturing hub. Data from research firm Counterpoint indicates that India is projected to assemble 26% of the world’s total iPhones in 2026, up from just 4% in 2022. Apple is reportedly investigating the case together with Tata. Tata has restricted access to sensitive internal systems and appointed a global consultancy to conduct a forensic audit to prevent further leaks.
