iPhone 17 Pro Max Already Widely Resold Despite Only Five Months Since Release
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Apple officially released the global iPhone 17 series in September 2025. However, less than a year since the launch of the most expensive phone in the series, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it was reported to be widely resold. This information comes from SellCell. It states the iPhone 17 Pro Max sits at the top of the list of 20 phones in the US independent trade-in market. The number of trade-ins reaches 11.5%. The figure rose from 5.1% in November last year, according to MacRumors, on Tuesday 3 March 2026. The report notes that mobile phone sales are dominated by new devices. The proportion stood at 86% in the prime or good category, meaning they are sold not long after the original purchase. Sales of predecessors to the iPhone 17 Pro Max are also fairly high. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max each contribute 7.3%. Likewise with the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 13, recorded at 7.2%. There is depreciation in resale value for those devices. Specifically for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, depreciation reached 25.4% since launch, calculated from 145 days after release. However that figure is not as large as the iPhone 16 Pro Max at 32.5%. The amount corresponds to an additional resale price of US$95 (Rp 1.6 million) compared with the previous generation and the same period. For information, the launch price of the iPhone 17 Pro Max six months ago was around US$1,199 (Rp 20.2 million). But now the used phone price ranges around US$967.5 or Rp 16.3 million. According to MacRumors, premium smartphones can be short-term assets. This means those phones can be sold when users need cash.
