Apple sells the same iPhone models globally, yet consumer costs vary by thousands of US dollars due to taxes, import duties, exchange rate fluctuations, and local trade regulations. Data from Visual Capitalist, sourced from a Deutsche Bank report, compares the retail prices of the iPhone 17 Pro 256GB across 41 markets for 2026.

Turkey holds the position of the most expensive country, with a price of US$2,592. This figure represents 219% of the US price of US$1,181, meaning Turkish consumers pay approximately US$1,411 more than buyers in the US. Brazil ranks second at US$2,260, followed by Egypt at US$1,872, with Hungary and Norway rounding out the top five most expensive nations.

In Indonesia, the price for the iPhone 17 Pro 256GB is recorded at Rp24,999,000, which is equivalent to approximately US$1,389. This price is 118% of the US price tag, meaning Indonesian consumers pay roughly 18% more than their US counterparts. Meanwhile, South Korea offers the same price as the United States at US$1,181, and Hong Kong lists the device at US$1,200.

Japan emerges as the cheapest market on the list with a price of US$1,121, which is about 5% lower than the US price and less than half the price found in Turkey.

The significant price differences indicate that Apple’s global pricing strategy is not the sole determining factor. Consumption taxes, import tariffs, distribution costs, currency fluctuations, and local policies can add hundreds to over a thousand US dollars to the final price. Turkey and Brazil are known for imposing high taxes and import duties on electronic devices, while currency volatility often forces manufacturers to raise prices to hedge against local currency depreciation. Conversely, the lower prices in Japan reflect a combination of exchange rates, tax structures, and local market sales strategies.
