IPG Reaches 78.71, Women's Role Strengthens in Semarang City
The Gender Empowerment Index (IPG) in Semarang City shows a positive achievement. In 2025, Semarang City’s IPG is recorded at 78.71, reflecting the increasingly strong role of women in various development sectors.
This was conveyed by Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng during the ceremony commemorating the 147th Kartini Day, held by the Semarang City Government in the City Hall courtyard today.
Agustina emphasised that this high achievement is inseparable from the real contributions of women in various fields, from health and the environment to community-based economy.
One of the main pillars is the role of around 16,000 Posyandu cadres who voluntarily contribute to maintaining public health. This practice has even received appreciation from California State University as an example of strengthening community-based roles.
“When I was invited to California State University, they greatly appreciated how the Posyandu cadres are able to maintain the health of the surrounding community. This serves as an example of how a sense of social responsibility can grow from the community,” said Agustina in her statement on Tuesday (21/4/2026).
In addition to the health sector, women’s contributions are also evident in the Semarang Wegah Nyampah environmental management movement through waste banks. She said that with the active involvement of PKK cadres and communities, this activity has also driven economic turnover in the community up to Rp 2.2 billion.
“That commitment is also strengthened through the formation of 177 Women- and Child-Friendly Sub-Districts spread across the entire Semarang City area. Sub-districts become the frontline in ensuring that women and children receive protection as well as space to develop,” she explained.
This Gender Empowerment Index achievement serves as an indicator that women in Semarang City are not only objects of development but have also played a role as the main subjects of change.
She said that through this momentum, the Semarang City Government continues to encourage women to enhance their capacity, dare to take roles, and expand contributions in various fields to maintain the positive trend of gender empowerment in the future.
“When women are empowered, families become strong, communities become resilient, and Semarang City will be even greater,” Agustina concluded.
