Iperindo Partners with Russian Shipyard Ak Bars, Eyes Technology Transfer and Export Markets
The Indonesian Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Association (Iperindo) has established a partnership with Ak Bars Shipyard, one of the largest shipbuilding companies in Russia. The collaboration is expected to broaden market access, encourage technology transfer, and enhance the competitiveness of the national shipbuilding industry.
Iperindo Chairperson Anita Puji Utami stated that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with Ak Bars represents a strategic step to strengthen international networks while opening new business opportunities for Iperindo members.
“This cooperation is not only trade-oriented but also focuses on industrial development, technology transfer, human resource capacity building, and creating wider business opportunities for Iperindo members,” Anita said in a written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The signing of the MoU took place on the sidelines of the INNOPROM 2026 exhibition in Ekaterinburg, Russia, and was witnessed by Indonesia’s Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita alongside his Russian counterpart.
Anita noted that the agreement was a key agenda item at the Indonesia-Russia business forum held during INNOPROM 2026. At the event, Iperindo also established a dedicated cluster to promote the capabilities of the national shipbuilding industry to international players.
In addition to Iperindo, one of its member companies, PT PCM Kabel Indonesia, also signed a memorandum of understanding with Ak Bars Shipyard. Anita said the agreement is part of efforts to expand business collaboration and the maritime industry supply chain between Indonesia and Russia.
According to Anita, the cooperation follows a visit by an Ak Bars delegation to Indonesia on 17 April 2026. During that visit, the Russian delegation met with Iperindo and several member companies to explore collaboration opportunities in the shipbuilding and maritime sectors.
She expressed hope that the partnership would strengthen the competitiveness of the national shipbuilding industry through human resource capacity building, technology transfer, international market expansion, and stronger economic ties between Indonesia and Russia in the maritime sector.
