IPDN Vice Rector on High-Achieving Local Governments: Regions Must Ensure Citizen Welfare
The Vice Rector for Administration at the Institute of Home Affairs Governance (IPDN), Arief M. Edie, expressed his hope that local governments can further improve the welfare of their citizens through the 2026 Batch II High-Achieving Local Government Awards, which are being held at the Platinum Hotel, Balikpapan, today at 7:00 PM WITA.
The High-Achieving Local Government Awards are organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, which has appointed IPDN as the organiser for the 2026 Batch II Regional Kalimantan awards.
“Our hope is that local governments are motivated by this. We are committed that as regional heads, we must be able to prosper the community; that is the primary goal. Do not think about anything else,” said Arief after inspecting the venue for the awards ceremony on Thursday (3/9).
He further stated, “They must provide a reciprocal benefit, providing prosperity to their people.”
Arief continued that the Ministry of Home Affairs is also collaborating with other ministries and agencies to ensure the prosperity of Indonesian citizens.
On this occasion, Arief disclosed the indicators used to assess the local governments that will receive awards. These indicators include public services and community needs, such as education, healthcare, waste management, and housing.
He emphasised that the public must feel the presence of the state through programmes that make their lives easier.
Furthermore, Aries explained that these awards should serve as a catalyst for local governments to perform better for the community.
“This should not be viewed merely as a trophy. We are providing appreciation to entice them, acting as a trigger for other regions,” he revealed.
The High-Achieving Local Government Awards 2026 Batch II for the Kalimantan Region will be attended by regional heads from across Kalimantan, the Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, and the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian.
