IPC TPK Panjang Increases Handling Capacity with New Post Panamax Quay Container Crane
The strengthening of cargo handling infrastructure continues at IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) Panjang to increase service capacity and support the smooth flow of logistics in the Southern Sumatra region.
One of these strategic steps was realised through the addition of a Post Panamax type Quay Container Crane (QCC) which arrived at Panjang Port on board the MV Zheng Hua 37 from China.
The arrival of the new crane is part of Pelindo Terminal Petikemas’ investment program to support increased capacity and productivity in the terminal.
With the addition of this equipment, IPC TPK Panjang now has a total of four QCC units ready to strengthen ship services and container flow at the terminal. This strategic step was taken to respond to the surge in container volume, which grew significantly by 24% last year.
Manager of IPC TPK Area Panjang, Anang Subagyono, affirmed that the addition of the QCC is part of the company’s efforts to improve the competitiveness of the port while strengthening the national logistics chain in the Lampung region and its surroundings.
“The addition of the Post Panamax QCC is a strategic step to increase service capacity and terminal productivity. We want to ensure that IPC TPK Panjang is able to meet the needs of users as logistics activities and container flow increase in the Southern Sumatra region,” said Anang, Saturday (16/5/2026).
This increased capacity is in line with the continued positive trend in container flow at IPC TPK Panjang. Throughout 2025, the terminal recorded a container flow of 128,675 TEUs, or an increase of around 24% compared to 2024, which reached 103,700 TEUs.
The giant crane arrived at Panjang Port transported by the MV Zheng Hua 37 from China on Thursday (14/5). With the addition of this fleet, IPC TPK Area Panjang now has a total of 4 QCC units ready to optimise cargo handling services at the main logistics gateway in the Southern Sumatra region.
Technically, this Post Panamax QCC has an outreach of 45 meters with a range of 16 to 17 rows of containers. This specification allows the port to serve larger capacity ships more efficiently.
After the MV Zheng Hua 37 docked, the technical team will carry out the rolling-off process or lowering the crane to the terminal dock. Before being fully operational, this equipment will go through a series of stages, starting from system installation, load testing (commissioning test), to integration with the terminal’s operational system (TOS).
Anang added that this infrastructure investment is projected to be a catalyst for regional economic growth. “The arrival of the Post Panamax QCC unit marks a new chapter in the modernisation of Panjang Port. We want to ensure that the infrastructure we have is not only able to support current operational trends, but is also ready to be a major catalyst for economic growth and the smooth flow of the national logistics chain in the Lampung region and its surroundings,” Anang concluded.
PT IPC Terminal Petikemas or IPC TPK is a terminal operator that provides container handling services with an integrated network system between ports and is managed professionally. IPC TPK is one of the subsidiaries of the Subholding PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas.
PT IPC Terminal Petikemas operates in 6 (six) work areas, namely Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta; Pontianak Port, West Kalimantan; Panjang Port, Lampung; Palembang Port, Palembang; Teluk Bayur Port, Padang; and Jambi Port, Jambi. (H-2)
Due to declining productivity in cargo handling at several port routes, ship owners and port users have complained because their operational costs have increased.
A number of ships arriving at several ports have to wait 5-6 days to be able to dock and unload goods.
The volume of vehicles piled up has reached 4,000 containers.
The severe congestion that occurred around Tanjung Priok Port has again had a domino effect on traffic flow on several toll roads in Jakarta.
Traffic congestion is unavoidable in the Tanjung Priok Port area, extending to Jalan Yos Sudarso and Cilincing, North Jakarta, Thursday (17/4).
