IPC Panjang Increases Capacity with New Giant Crane
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) Panjang has added one unit of Post Panamax Quay Container Crane (QCC) to increase handling capacity and strengthen logistics in the southern Sumatra region.
The new crane arrived at Panjang Port via the MV Zheng Hua 37 from China as part of Pelindo Terminal Petikemas’ investment programme to support increased capacity and terminal productivity.
With the addition of this equipment, IPC TPK Panjang now has a total of four QCC units to serve ship and container handling activities.
“The addition of this Post Panamax QCC is a strategic step to increase service capacity and terminal productivity. We want to ensure that IPC TPK Panjang is able to meet the needs of users as logistics activities and container traffic increase in the southern Sumatra region,” said Anang in a statement on Saturday (16 May 2026).
Throughout 2025, IPC TPK Panjang recorded container traffic of 128,675 TEUs, an increase of around 24 per cent compared to 103,700 TEUs in 2024.
Technically, the Post Panamax QCC has an outreach of 45 metres with a reach of 16 to 17 rows of containers. This specification allows the terminal to serve large-capacity vessels more efficiently.
After the MV Zheng Hua 37 docked at Panjang Port, the technical team will carry out the rolling-off process or lowering the crane to the terminal dock.
Before being fully operational, the equipment will go through several stages, starting from system installation, load testing (commissioning test), to integration with the terminal operating system (TOS).
Anang believes that this investment in handling infrastructure will be a catalyst for regional economic growth as well as strengthening national logistics connectivity.
“The arrival of the Post Panamax QCC unit marks a new chapter in the modernisation of Panjang Port. We want to ensure that the infrastructure we have is not only able to support current operational trends, but is also ready to be a major catalyst for economic growth and the smooth flow of national logistics in the Lampung region and its surroundings,” said Anang.
