IPB University Launches Special Journalist Scholarship Programme, Requirements Listed
IPB University has launched its first journalist scholarship programme to strengthen national journalism capacity. The initiative provides broader educational access for media professionals to pursue postgraduate (master’s) studies, while enhancing public communication based on science, innovation, and sustainable development.
IPB University Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet explained the scholarship programme is designed as a national capacity-building partnership through flexible, collaborative, and sustainable education schemes. It marks the university’s first full and partial scholarship offering for journalists.
‘With research support, national and international networks, and applied learning, IPB provides a relevant academic environment to address future development challenges,’ he said during the scholarship launch for national media editors at Kafe Sangra, IPB Baranangsiang Campus (25 May 2026).
He added that collaboration between universities and media is a strategic step towards building a healthy and sustainable communication ecosystem. IPB University believes quality information is the foundation for an intelligent, democratic, and globally competitive society.
The rector stated the programme aims to produce graduates who are competent, ethical public communicators and media managers focused on public interest and adaptable to information disruption. They are expected to drive high-quality, independent, and responsible content production while strengthening synergy between media, government, academia, and the private sector.
Additionally, the initiative contributes to national information resilience by developing human resources capable of tackling misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda in the digital age.
‘Graduates of this master’s programme will be part of a strategic solution to enhance information quality, development communication, and national information resilience,’ the rector concluded.
