Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University has launched a master’s scholarship programme exclusively for journalists. Ten places are available for journalists seeking to pursue postgraduate studies across various programmes starting in the 2026/2027 academic year.

Rector Alim Setiawan Slamet said the programme offers various education assistance schemes, from full scholarships to quarter-fee reductions. “Four places are available for full scholarships, three for half scholarships, and three for quarter scholarships,” he stated in a written release on Monday, 25 May 2026.

He added that applications close on 19 June 2026, with successful candidates beginning classes on 18 August 2026. A key requirement for scholarship recipients is being under 45 years of age.

In addition to full scholarships and fee reductions, IPB also offers free registration fees and partnerships with media companies for funding. Master’s programme tuition fees at IPB range from Rp11 million to Rp38 million per semester for business school programmes.

Selection is based on written exams, interviews, and administrative assessments. Applicants must submit recommendation letters from their media organisations.

For freelance or contributing journalists not affiliated with a media company, recommendations can be provided by professional organisations such as the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) or the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI).

“Applicants must also submit a motivation letter. We hope they remain committed to journalism after graduation,” Alim said.

Deni Noviana, Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs, stated the programme will use a blended online and offline learning system. The standard study period is four semesters.

“If they do not graduate on time, they have an additional four semesters as per regulations. If still unable to complete, the final option is to drop out,” Deni said.

Available programmes under the journalist scholarship pathway include Agricultural and Rural Development Communication, Digital Communication and Media, Natural Resource and Environmental Management, Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Agromaritime Logistics, Applied Climatology, Regional Development Management, Management Science, and Business Management.

Full details of the programme can be accessed via IPB’s official administration website at adminis.ipb.ac.id.

According to Deni, the programme was launched to strengthen IPB’s relationship with the media and improve journalism quality, particularly on agromaritime issues. “We hope journalists gain sufficient knowledge on agromaritime matters,” he said.

Alim added that if the master’s scholarship programme for journalists proves successful, IPB plans to offer doctoral scholarships specifically for journalists in the following academic year.
