Bogor Regency (ANTARA) - Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University is involving students in the handling of sexual harassment cases as an effort to strengthen transparency, accountability, and public trust in the processes underway within the campus environment.

“We do not tolerate or normalise any form of sexual violence. We are committed to ensuring that every process is transparent, accountable, and participatory by involving student elements,” stated IPB University Rector Alim Setiawan Slamet after holding a dialogue between campus leaders and students at the Andi Hakim Nasution Auditorium, IPB Dramaga Campus, on Friday.

Alim emphasised that the campus does not tolerate any form of sexual violence under any circumstances and is committed to strengthening comprehensive prevention and handling systems.

He conveyed that in handling every report, IPB not only focuses on enforcing rules but also prioritises a dialogical approach with students to achieve comprehensive and just resolutions.

This dialogue activity between campus leaders and students was attended by hundreds of students and served as one of the open forums to discuss case handling.

IPB University Director of Cooperation, Communication, and Marketing, Alfian Helmi, stated that student involvement is part of the institution’s commitment to transparency and accountability in every case handling process.

“Student participation is important to ensure that the process runs openly, fairly, and maintains public trust in the institution,” said Alfian.

He explained that this involvement is carried out through communication and coordination with student organisations and representatives so that all handling stages can be monitored openly.

According to him, the dialogue held has several objectives, including building transparency in the case handling process, providing a safe space for students to express views, and gathering input for future policy improvements.

IPB also ensures that every report is handled professionally, prioritising principles of confidentiality, victim protection, and justice for all parties.

The units and mechanisms established within the campus continue to be strengthened to guarantee quick and appropriate responses.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the IPB University Student Executive Board (BEM), Muhammad Abdan Rofi, appreciated the campus’s steps in facilitating open dialogue between students and rectorate leaders.

“We are grateful to be facilitated to meet directly with policymakers. In this meeting, not only technical aspects were discussed, but also up to the formulation of regulations,” he said.

He added that several points of student demands regarding regulations, procedures, and technical aspects have been agreed upon together in the forum.

Abdan emphasised the importance of collaboration between the institution and students in creating a safe and inclusive campus environment.

“We hope we can become ‘co-creators’ to realise a safe space, not only from the institution but also with student involvement,” he said.

Allegations of sexual harassment cases within the IPB University campus environment came under public spotlight after screenshots of vulgar-toned student conversations in a WhatsApp group circulated widely on social media.
