IPB University is conducting an investigation into allegations of sexual violence perpetrated by over a dozen students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FTT). These students engaged in conversations of a sexual nature and harassed the victim within an internal group on a messaging platform.

The allegations of sexual violence came under public scrutiny after screenshots of their conversations circulated widely on social media. IPB University Student Body President Muhammad Abdan Rofi stated that, based on initial information, the sexual violence occurred in 2024.

The students in the conversation group made inappropriate and sexist comments towards a fellow student. Abdan said that the perpetrators and victim had previously undergone mediation in 2024. The mediation between the two parties at that time was conducted within the internal scope of the mechanical and biosystems technology department, facilitated by senior students.

However, the case resurfaced following the revelation of a similar sexual violence incident at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia. Abdan stated that the victim reposted the screenshots of the harassing conversations. The victim has now officially reported the matter to the campus authorities.

“Currently, the mediation between the perpetrators and victim has been escalated to the dean’s office and is being accompanied by the institution and the Student Body,” said Abdan when contacted on Thursday, 16 April 2026.

IPB’s Director of Cooperation, Communication, and Marketing, Alfian Helmi, stated that the Campus Security, Safety, and Protection Management Office (KMKKPK) IPB has initiated an investigation into the case. The university has summoned relevant parties, gathered evidence, and coordinated with authorised units on campus.

Alfian emphasised that IPB does not tolerate any form of violence in the campus environment. He said that every violation of campus life regulations will be processed in accordance with applicable provisions. “Every form of violation against campus life regulations will be processed in accordance with the applicable provisions,” he stated, as reported by Antara on Thursday, 16 April 2026.

Alfian assured that IPB will impose sanctions on the perpetrators if violations are proven. However, alongside this, IPB has requested all parties to exercise restraint and respect the ongoing process so that the case resolution can be carried out objectively.

“Updates on the handling of this case will be provided periodically in line with the ongoing process, while still upholding principles of caution and justice,” said Alfian.
